Guided Notes

The Revenue Cycle Inside the EHR

How clinical documentation becomes charges and claims — charge capture, charge routers and work queues, coding, claim edits, HIM chart completion and integrated billing.

From care to cash

Slide 1 / 5

In integrated EHRs, clinical actions create financial transactions: • Ordering and resulting a lab test drops a charge. • Administering a medication on the eMAR drops a pharmacy charge. • A provider selects the visit level (E/M) and diagnoses → professional charge. • Supplies scanned in the OR drop supply charges. • The chargemaster (CDM) prices each item. Charges flow through edits and coding into claims (837P/837I).
