Payment Posting & Reconciliation

Read EOBs and 835 ERAs line by line, post payments and adjustments, handle secondary claims, refunds and recoupments, and reconcile deposits.

EOB vs ERA

Slide 1 / 5

• EOB (Explanation of Benefits) — the payer's explanation; providers get a provider version, patients get their own. • ERA (Electronic Remittance Advice, the 835 transaction) — the electronic version that can be auto-posted into the billing system. • EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) — the actual money deposited in the bank; matched to the ERA by a trace number.

Each claim line shows: billed amount, allowed amount, paid amount, adjustments with group/CARC codes, and patient responsibility.
