Anatomy & Body Systems for Coders

The body systems coders meet most, the key structures in each, and the common conditions and procedures that go with them.

Why coders need anatomy

Slide 1 / 5

Code books are organized largely by body system. To pick the right code you must know where things are and how they relate: • Is the femur in the leg or the arm? (leg — thigh bone) • Is the gallbladder part of the digestive system? (yes — it stores bile) • Is a 'Colles fracture' at the wrist? (yes — distal radius)

You don't need a doctor's depth — you need enough to read a note and find the right section of the code book.
