Exploring HTML on Live Webpages

Viewing source and inspecting real websites with browser developer tools, validating HTML, and where to go next.

View Page Source

Slide 1 / 5

Every website's HTML is public. Right-click a page and choose View Page Source (Ctrl+U, or Cmd+Option+U on a Mac) to see the exact HTML file the server sent.

It's a great way to learn: you'll recognize the <!DOCTYPE>, <head>, meta tags, and semantic elements from this course.

Real pages can look intimidating β€” long lines, minified code, lots of scripts. Use Ctrl+F to search for something you can see on the page, such as a heading.
