Terminology Services & Mapping Projects

Local-to-standard mapping (lab to LOINC, drugs to RxNorm), mapping quality, terminology servers and FHIR terminology operations, and maintaining maps over time.

Why mapping projects exist

Slide 1 / 5

Systems often use local codes: a lab test called 'GLU-SER' with local code 1042; a pharmacy item 'METF500T'. To exchange, report or analyze, local codes must map to standards: • Lab tests → LOINC (and units → UCUM) • Medications → RxNorm (and NDC) • Problems/diagnoses → SNOMED CT and ICD-10-CM • Vaccines → CVX Mapping is detailed, clinical work with real consequences.
