Imaging informatics basics

Slide 1 / 5

• DICOM — the standard for medical images and their metadata (patient, study, series, modality, equipment). • Modality worklist — the scanner gets patient/order details from the RIS so images are labeled correctly. • PACS — stores and displays images; radiologists read on diagnostic workstations. • VNA (vendor-neutral archive) — enterprise image storage across departments. • Enterprise imaging — including photos, endoscopy and dermatology images in the record.
