Remote Repositories & GitHub

Remotes, SSH and HTTPS, connecting a repository to GitHub, and pushing, fetching, and pulling.

Remotes

Slide 1 / 5

A remote is a copy of your repository hosted somewhere else β€” usually on GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket. It's how teams share work: everyone pushes their commits to the remote and pulls everyone else's.

By convention, the main remote is called origin.

git remote -v lists your remotes and their URLs.
