Clone and fork

Slide 1 / 5

git clone <url> downloads a full copy of a repository β€” every file and every commit β€” and sets origin automatically. Use it for projects you can push to.

A fork is your own copy of someone else's repository, on GitHub. Fork a project you can't push to, clone your fork, make changes, and propose them back with a pull request.

Keep a fork current by adding the original as a second remote, usually called upstream, and pulling from it.
