Introduction to Git

Commits, the staging area, and history.

What is Git?

Slide 1 / 5

Git is a version control system: it records every change to your project's files, so you can see who changed what, when, and why β€” and go back to any earlier version.

It's distributed: every developer has the full history on their own machine, so you can work offline and nothing is lost if a server fails.

Git was created in 2005 by Linus Torvalds for the Linux kernel, and today it's used by nearly every software team.
