VLOOKUP & XLOOKUP

Looking up values across tables with VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, and handling missing matches.

Why lookups?

Slide 1 / 5

Data often lives in separate tables: orders list a Product ID, while prices live in a product table. A lookup function finds a value in one table and brings back related information — the price, the name, the category — so you never retype it.

When the product table changes, every lookup updates automatically.

The classic function is VLOOKUP; newer versions of Excel add the more flexible XLOOKUP.
