What a PivotTable does

Slide 1 / 5

A PivotTable summarizes thousands of rows in seconds — total sales by region, average order by month, count of customers by product — without writing a single formula, and without changing the source data.

Its power is flexibility: drag a field to a new place and the whole summary pivots to answer a different question.

Start with a clean list (one header row, no blank rows or merged cells) — ideally an Excel table, so new rows are included automatically.
