Random Numbers

Pseudo-random numbers, random integers and floats, choosing from data, seeds, and shuffling.

Pseudo-random numbers

Slide 1 / 5

Computers are deterministic, so the random numbers they produce come from algorithms β€” pseudo-random numbers. They look random and pass statistical tests, but the same starting point (a seed) always produces the same sequence.

That's a feature: seeding makes simulations, experiments, and machine-learning splits reproducible.

For security (passwords, tokens), use Python's secrets module instead β€” pseudo-random numbers are predictable.
