Random Distributions

Normal, binomial, Poisson, uniform, and other distributions β€” and when each describes real data.

Normal (Gaussian) distribution

Slide 1 / 5

The normal distribution is the classic bell curve: most values cluster around the mean, and fewer appear further away. Heights, measurement errors, and test scores roughly follow it.

rng.normal(loc=170, scale=10, size=1000)

β€’ loc β€” the mean (the peak's center). β€’ scale β€” the standard deviation (the spread). β€’ size β€” how many values.

About 68% of values fall within one standard deviation of the mean, and 95% within two.
