Introduction to NumPy

What NumPy is, why arrays beat Python lists for numbers, and getting started.

What is NumPy?

Slide 1 / 5

NumPy (Numerical Python) is the library for working with numbers in Python. Its core object is the ndarray β€” an n-dimensional array: a grid of values that all share one data type.

Almost the entire Python data ecosystem is built on it: pandas, scikit-learn, SciPy, Matplotlib, and deep-learning libraries all use NumPy arrays under the hood. Learning NumPy is learning the foundation of data science in Python.
