Introduction to Java

Classes, the main method, and compiling to the JVM.

What is Java?

Slide 1 / 5

Java is one of the world's most widely used programming languages. It powers Android apps, large enterprise systems at banks and retailers, big-data tools like Hadoop and Kafka, and countless web back ends.

It's object-oriented, statically typed, and famous for "write once, run anywhere": the same compiled program runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Java is not related to JavaScript, despite the similar name.
