Curriculum

11 chapters, each with a tutorial, a live example, a quiz, an exercise, a challenge, and class practice.

  1. 1

    Introduction to NumPy

What NumPy is, why arrays beat Python lists for numbers, and getting started.

  2. 2

Creating Arrays, Shapes & Data Types

0-D to n-D arrays, helper functions for creating arrays, dimensions, and data types.

  3. 3

    Indexing & Slicing

Accessing elements, negative indexes, 2-D indexing, slices with steps, and selecting rows and columns.

  4. 4

    Copy vs View & Iterating

When arrays share memory, the base attribute, and looping with nditer and ndenumerate.

  5. 5

    Reshape, Join & Split

Changing an array's shape, flattening, joining arrays with concatenate and stack, and splitting them.

  6. 6

    Search, Sort & Filter

Finding values with where and searchsorted, sorting, boolean filtering, and set operations.

  7. 7

    Ufuncs & Broadcasting

Universal functions, arithmetic, rounding and logs, creating your own ufuncs, and broadcasting rules.

  8. 8

    Aggregations & Math Functions

sum, prod, mean, min/max across axes, cumulative sums, differences, LCM/GCD, and trigonometry.

  9. 9

    Random Numbers

Pseudo-random numbers, random integers and floats, choosing from data, seeds, and shuffling.

  10. 10

    Random Distributions

Normal, binomial, Poisson, uniform, and other distributions — and when each describes real data.

  11. 11

    Linear Algebra Basics

Dot products, matrix multiplication, transposes, identity and inverse matrices, and solving equations.
