Storage: S3, EBS & EFS

Block, object, and file storage; EBS volumes and snapshots; S3 buckets, storage classes, and lifecycle rules.

Three kinds of storage

Slide 1 / 5

β€’ Block storage β€” a disk split into blocks; fast, for operating systems and databases. EC2 instance store (temporary, lost when the instance stops) and Amazon EBS (persistent). β€’ Object storage β€” whole files with metadata, addressed by a key, virtually unlimited. Amazon S3. β€’ File storage β€” a shared file system many servers can mount at once. Amazon EFS (Linux) and Amazon FSx (Windows, Lustre, and more).
